Statistics
NR has approx. 50 researchers with a broad foundation of methods within the fields of Statistical-Mathematical Analysis, Modeling and Image Analysis. This makes NR one of Europe's strongest institutes within applied statistics, covering a variety of interesting, modern methods and applications.
Petroleum
NR has worked with statistical methods to reduce and quantify risk and uncertainty in the petroleum industry since 1984. The main area is stochastic modeling of the geology in petroleum reservoirs including upscaling and history matching. There is also a significant activity on all kinds of risk quantification.
Earth Observation
NR has been a leading research and development institute in satellite remote sensing since Norway started to focus on this discipline in the beginning of the 1980's. The institute's main role has since then been to do research and development of methodologies for analysis of digital remote sensing data, in particular methodologies for semi-automatic and automatic classification, parameter retrieval and object recognition.
Image Analysis and Pattern Recognition
Image analysis and pattern recognition are important activity at NR. We develop solutions for image analysis using a variety of methods, for many different application areas; pattern recognition, video analysis, and image analysis.
Statistics for Climate, Environment, Marine Resources and Health
There are many statistical research challenges in climate, environment, marine resources and health. Long time series, analysis of data, prediction and quantification of risk are some of the challenges.
Statistics for Finance, Insurance and Commodity Markets
This area includes modeling of all kind of risk, estimation and prediction of premium and prices. We both estimated prices for commodities and derivatives.
Statistics for Technology, Industry and Administration
Technology, industry and administration have many statistical challenging problems. Our competence covers a wide range of areas including network modelling, optimal delivery/logistics, optimal steering of industry processes, reliability analysis and cost surveys.
