Project description
The overall OSIRIS project objective is to combine integration technologies such as component-based development, application servers, asynchronous middleware, Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Web Services technologies to provide a flexible Open Source Infrastructure for Run-time Integration of Services that will allow smooth integration of different platforms, services and devices to build added-value services.
NR's contribution
NR has been actively involved in three areas, architecture, tools development and in one demonstrator (the tax demonstrator). The demonstrator showed how mobile phones and digital television could be used as devises for various public services, and how the applications could adapt to changes in the environment.
Benefit for customers
The results of OSIRIS have great exploitation potential, given the open source nature of the initiative and broad application domain addressed. Industrial partners in the project will bring and share their technical expertise, and in most cases will go on to leverage open source platforms for their own activities and related business models.
Benefit for society
With the prototype developed, electronic forms are easier accessible through mobile devices. Also, even though the help-by-voice feature of the application favors people with visual disabilities, its use is likely to increase the acceptance rate of the application for everybody.
Project results
The main results of the project are the OSIRIS architecture, Open Source tools, set of demonstrators and dissemination in several conferences.
