- Project description
-
The goal of the project was to contribute to the development of inclusive ICT solutions by means of R&D efforts towards personalization of the user interface.
This project led to an increased understanding of the challenges and needs which cognitively impaired users experience in daily-life situations involving various ICT solutions. Another important aspect was to develop a personalized user interface which gave a real advantage for the user with regard to a specific impairment.
The main objectives were as follows.
- To develop a tool to measure the user's relevant cognitive abilities.
- To demonstrate the tool by means of a gallery of virtual users.
- To show the potential of a personalized user interface.
The project included an evaluation of existing tests of cognitive abilities and established an overview of current personalization techniques. Development and testing were based on scenario methodology.
- NR's contribution
-
- Examined existing relevant tests of cognitive functioning
- Developed a tool and methodological framework for the evaluation of cognitively disabled ICT users
- Demonstrated the use of the framework in a so-called personas setting
- Benefit for customers
-
A tool useful for the evaluation of the cognitive skills of an individual. Dissemination of knowledge about mental impairments and their significance for ICT in the scientific community.
- Benefit for society
-
The particular needs of the group of users with cognitive challenges were better understood. This means in turn a greater share of individuals who on their own are able to participate in a life strongly influenced by various information and communication technologies.
- Project results
-
Results from the project are used in subsequent projects like UNIMOD and KogNett.
