- Project description
- The project's objective was to survey possibilities and barriers for the use of ICT by blind or partially sighted people, as well as to propose measures to remove those barriers. Both partners and funding institutions participated in this study. The study consisted of interviews and tests of individuals belonging to the target group, literature research, and seminars.
- NR's contribution
- NR conducted all necessary parts of the project.
- Benefit for society
- The study discloses areas where particular user groups with visual deficiencies encounter discrimination compared to groups without those disabilities. The study advocates for universal design of ICT tools, i.e. design for all. Provided that the measures proposed in the study are implemented, more people will be able to remain active members of the community.
- Project results
-
The survey documents a number of ICT related barriers which blind and partially sighted people encounter in everyday life. It also discloses challenges regarding technologies which are developed without taking into account the requirements of those users.
A series of measures is given that have the potential to remedy the deficiencies faced by the target group as of today.
