Seminar in statistical methods in bioinformatics

During 2002 we have a seminar series in statistical methods in bioinformatics, with both internal and external speakers. We focus mainly on analysis of microarray data.

This is an informal seminar series, open for all, where speakers might:

  • present their work in progress
  • report on interesting papers which she/he has read
  • look to areas of potential interest for statisticians

We look for potential speakers. Please contact Marit Holden at Marit.Holden@nr.no if you are interested.

Program with handouts from talks:

  • Tuesday 10th September 2002 14.00, room Delta (by NR's reception)

Arnoldo Frigessi [SAMBA, Norsk Regnesentral]: ANOVA for Microarray data — A short survey

The talk will present the ANOVA modelling approach to cDNA microarray analysis, as developed in the literature. We shall try to highlight advantages, possibilities and difficulties. The papers by the group of Kathleen Kerr and Gary Churchil will be surveyed, among others, including the ANOVA work done on amplification by NR, DNR, NTNU.

  • Friday 27th September 2002 14.00, room Delta (by NR's reception).

Marit Holden [SAMBA, Norsk Regnesentral]: On the paper A statistical framework for expression—based molecular classification in cancer by G Parmigiani, ES Garrett, R Anbazhagan and E Gabrielson, read before the Royal Statistical Society in London May 2002.

The article may be dowloaded here [pdf].

  • Friday 11th October 2002 14.00, room Alfa/Omega (by NR's reception).

Petter Mostad [Department of Mathematics at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden]: Variance models for microarray data

The talk will be based on the article Rudemo, M.; Lobovkina, T.; Mostad, P.; Scheidl, S.J.; Nilsson, S.; Lindahl, P: "Variance models for microarray data". Submitted. Report 2002:6, Mathematical Statistics, Chalmers University of Thechnology

  • Thursday 5th December 2002 14.00, room Delta (by NR's reception).

Narinder Singh [Diagenic AS]: Bioinformatics, an industrial perspective
