Oceanides
The OCEANIDES project aims to identify and assemble the knowledge required to establish a more harmonised and effective monitoring of European waters of illicit marine oil pollution.
- an understanding of the relative performance of various oil spill detection approaches and of the number of false positives and negatives one could expect under favourable meteorological conditions;
- an understanding of the effort required to monitor sub-sea and entire sea basins adequately;
- a common set of descriptors for Pan European harmonised oil spill reporting;
- an understanding of the environmental impact of illegal oil spills;
- a clear understanding of problems and obstacles to routine oil spill monitoring using an integrated satellite (multi) and airborne missions and clear outline of solutions to these identified problems;
